DAYTONA BEACH, FL UMES had a balanced effort for the second consective game as five players scored in double-figures, but it was not enough as Bethune-Cookman (BCC) narrowly defeated the Hawks, 86-82 in a MEAC contest Monday night. The loss drops UMES to 4-13 (1-6 MEAC) while BCC improves to 9-10 (5-3 MEAC). Freshman Troy Jackson led the way with 20 points as he shot 4-for-9 from beyond the arc. Tim Parham added 19 points and seven rebounds, while Antonio McMillion had 15 points off the bench. Freshmen Ed Tyson and Jesse Brooks finished with 14 and 11, respectively. Sam Barber's double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds led the Wildcats. Antonio Webb and Anis Taylor finished with 16 points each. The Hawks took their largest lead at 8:39 in the first half as Tyson's jumper gave UMES a six point advantage, 24-18. However, BCC went on an 11-2 run over the next two minutes and took a three point lead as Webb hit a trey at 6:01. Kevan Creppy pushed the Wildcat lead to seven with just over two minutes left in the half. A McMillion dunk with 38 seconds left closed UMES to within two of the lead, but Creppy's lay-up with nine seconds left gave BCC the four point lead at the half, 40-36. The maroon and gray never led in the second half but closed to within a basket on several occasions. Jackson had two trey's while Tyson and Parham had key jumpers in the last minute of play, but the Wildcats sealed their win from the charity stripe as they went 8-for-10 in the final minute of regulation. The Hawks are off until this weekend, next playing at Morgan State on Saturday, January 28. Tip off at Hill Field House is slated for 4 p.m.
