BALTIMORE, Md. - Senior Neal Pitt (Fort Washington, Md.) recorded his second straight double-double as the University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team fell to Morgan State, 91-54, Monday night at the Hill Field House.

Pitt scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and was joined by Hillary Haley (Oxon Hill, Md.) in double-digit scoring, who had 11 points of his own.

The Hawks shot just 29.2 percent (19-of-65) from the field, compared to the Bears' 48.6 percent (34-of-70).

The game started with a quick turnaround lay-in by Pitt, just a minute and a half in, to tie things at 2-2. MSU then held UMES for the next six minutes and went up 16-2. Coming out of a timeout by the head coach Frankie Allen, junior Kevin White (Brooklyn, N.Y.) broke the scoreless draught and immediately drained a jumpshot.

At the 9:23 mark, Haley was sent to the foul line and made the first out of two shots. His second shot missed, but he grabbed his own rebound and was fouled once again putting it back up for a layup. The four-point play was completed with a made free throw.

Redshirt freshman Mark Robertson (Lakewood, N.J.) nailed a 3-pointer at the 7:00 minute mark to bring the Hawks within 12 at 26-14.

The half ended with Pitt pulling down an offensive rebound and powering it back up for a layup. Pitt was fouled in the process and hit his free throw to bring the halftime score to 45-22.

Senior Roland Dunston (Bear, Del.) entered the game with just 10 minutes remaining and sparked a brief comeback for the Hawks when he drained a 3-pointer and then a jumper to make the score 69-33.

A dunk by freshman Sean Berry (Irvington, N.J.) at the 9:03 mark brought the score to 75-42.

UMES committed 20 turnovers, to just 12 for the Bears, in the 91-54 loss.

MSU's Reggie Holmes led all scorers with 25 points and three other Bears scored in double digits.

The Hawks fall to 5-14 on the season and remain at .500 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play with a record of 3-3. MSU improves to 14-7 overall and remains atop the MEAC at 6-0.

UMES returns home on Saturday with a 4 p.m. tipoff against Howard University. The game marks the first annual Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers weekend for the Hawks as Allen and his staff show their support in the fight against cancer.
