PRINCESS ANNE, MD - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Fighting Hawks dropped their homecoming game against the Florida A&M (FAMU) Rattlers Saturday afternoon, 70-57. UMES (5-18, 2-11 MEAC) got a game high 23 points from Troy Jackson (Wilkes Barre, Pa.). Junior Antonio McMillion (Randallstown, Md.) finished with a career high 22 points while freshman Jesse Brooks (Severn, Md.) chipped in with 11. Tim Parham (Chicago, Ill.) pulled down a game high 11 rebounds for the Fighting Hawks. Brian Greene led the way for FAMU (12-14, 8-6 MEAC) as he finished with a double-double of 18 points and 10 boards. Jonathan Kelly had 14 points for the Rattlers while Glen Elliott and Tony Tate finished with 12 and 10, respectively. FAMU shot 53% from the field compared to 38% by the Fighting Hawks. The Rattlers held a slim 42-36 advantage on the boards but shot just 27% from beyond the arc. FAMU cruised in the first half as they took a 30-18 lead thanks to a 12-2 run midway through the period. Brooks hit two consecutive treys at 6:13 to end the Rattler run, which in turn kicked off a 12-2 run by the maroon and gray. The Hawks closed to within one point of the lead at 1:16 but a lay-up by Rome Sanders gave FAMU the three point advantage going into the locker room, 36-33. McMillion's lay-up at 18:06 gave UMES a three-point lead but it was short lived as the Rattlers responded with a 14-5 spurt over the next few minutes. The Hawks again closed within four points of the lead but the Rattlers used an 11-2 run to seal the win and sweep the series against the maroon and gray. UMES next takes on Bethune-Cookman on Monday, Feb. 20. Game time at the Hytche Center is slated for 7:30 pm.
