PRINCESS ANNE, MD - Senior Corey Brown had 22 points off the bench to pace three Hawks in double figures, but it was not enough to carry the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) to victory over Morgan State (MSU) Saturday afternoon. The Bears picked up an 81-70 win over the Fighting Hawks in a homecoming and senior day contest at the Hytche Center. The decision marked the final home contest for Brown, Antonio McMillion, Shondale Robinson and Art Valentine.

Brown shot 6-for-14 from the field, including 4-for-7 from 3-point range, and finished with a game-high five steals while scoring 15 of his 22 in the second half. Sophomore Ed Tyson had 21 points while McMillion added 16.

MSU (11-15, 9-6 MEAC) was paced by five players in double figures. Ronald Timus led the way with 19 while Jamar Smith and Joseph McLean added 16 and 13, respectively. Timothy Berkely chipped in with 12 while Boubacar Coly contributed 11.

Morgan State outscored UMES 54-30 in the paint and held a slim 28-24 advantage in bench points. The Hawks had a 15-13 advantage in points off turnovers and drew even with MSU in fast break points with 10.

The contest featured seven ties with the last coming at 4:34 when McMillion's lay-up tied things up at 30-30 in the first half. Berkley's dunk in the following possession spurred a 9-0 Bear run over the final four minutes and gave Morgan State a 39-30 advantage at the break.

MSU took its largest lead at 14:55 in the second half when a Timus jumper put the Bears up by 17. The maroon and gray cut the lead down to single digits on several occasions after that, the last coming at 1:29 when Brown's lay-up closed UMES within eight. Morgan State fended off the Hawk run when McLean's 3-point play with just over a minute left gave MSU another double-digit lead.
