Baltimore, MD - Maryland Eastern Shore scored 65 points in the second half, 30 of them from Tee Trotter, but the Hawks could not overcome a 14-point halftime deficit and fell 93-89 to Morgan State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference contest Monday night. The Hawks finished the regular season at 7-20 (6-12 MEAC).

Cedrick Barrow scored seven of his team-high 23 points in the final minutes, all from the foul line, to help to help push Morgan State to the win. Five MSU players scored in double-figures in the high-scoring affair.

Morgan State (10-14, 9-8 MEAC) handed UMES its fourth consecutive loss and still has an outside shot at avoiding the play-in round at the MEAC Tournament next week. UMES will play in the #8/#9 first-round game on Tuesday, March 9th at 1:00 p.m.

The Hawks were led by the guard tandem of Aaron Wellington and Tee Trotter. The two guards combined for 60 of the Hawks' 89 points. Trotter finished with a game-high 35 points, including 17-for-17 from the free-throw line, while Wellington added a season-high 25 points and shot 7-for-13 from 3-point territory before fouling out in the final seconds of the game.

The Bears held a commanding 48-33 advantage following a 3-pointer by Sam Brand at the 16:07 mark in the second half. It appeared as though the Bears would blow the Hawks right out of the gym, but UMES never folded.

Trotter led the Hawks on a 21-6 run capped by a three-pointer by Wellington to knot the game at 54-54 with 10:02 remaining. Following a Morgan timeout, the Bears went on a run of its own as they scored six unanswered points and held a 64-58 lead with 8:50 left.

Down the stretch the Bears were able to keep UMES out of reach as they ended up converting 17-for-23 free throws in the final seven minutes.

Aaron Andrews was once again solid for the Bears as he collected his third double-double of the season with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Sam Brand and Chris Grant added points 15 apiece and Reggie Winkfield chipped in 14 points. Grant and Barrow also finished with 6 assists each.

Both teams shot in the mid-30 percent range in the first half, but exploded in the second half as UMES shot 62 percent and MSU knocked down 64 percent. The Hawks won the battle of the boards (33-29), but also committed more turnovers than MSU (19-10) that led to easy scoring opportunities for the Bears.
