Haley appeared late in the first half to make two free throws with less than a minute in the period. UMES struggled to score against the tough Savannah State defense.

Opening the second half down 40-24, Haley scored a lay-up in the paint followed by a jumper at 18:27. After trailing by as much as 24 points in five minutes, UMES saw points from Haley, Hines and Percy Woods.

Woods opened the second half with a couple of scores for the Hawks, and would finish with eight points on the night. For the last seven minutes of the second half, Haley and Hines would bring UMES within 14 points of the lead.

Haley scored two free throws to cut the lead to 55-49 at 5:19, and later score a three-pointer to keep the game at the game within striking distance. Unfortunately for the Hawks it was held scoreless until the end of regulation.
