Richmond, VA - UMES Head Coach Larry Lessett:

I want to commend Coach Butch Beard at Morgan they were prepared and coached well tonight.

I want to thank my assistants, Coach Thomas and Coach Smith who really worked for tonight's game. We threw everything including the kitchen sink at them and it worked for about 27 minutes.

I want to thank my players who gave me a lot tonight and never quit. I think all of you who will write an article should write about how hard we worked. My guys played like men tonight and I am very very proud of my basketball team.

If you watch our team play you can see how they didn't quit, they played hard, they executed down the stretch. Really we have to get some players. We are out recruiting 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

I want you to write how passionate our guys played. A team with our record, if you watch a team with our record in another conference they would quit, that score is not indicative of how the game was played.

I had a meeting with Coach Rick Pitino one time, we went to lunch. I learned something when Rick told me that his first coaching job he got beat by 40 every game, the AD called him in and said coach I know its your first job, but Rick said the way we play we are going to get beat by 40, but when we get players we are going to win by 40. Now I am not saying that we are going to do that but we gave up lay-ups and in the context of the game, we threw everything at them, we will always lave it on the floor.

Our preparation is on a level of Duke and North Carolina before a game. That's why I thank Coach Smith and Coach Thomas.

At the end of the day, if we make shots, there is a big difference, we win, we had the same attempts and they made a lot more shots.

I was brought here to build a program, the school has made a commitment and it isn't going to happen over night. I am hoping for the change in 365 days, we have to do it with players, we are I some major recruiting battles against Conference USA. Were gonna get good if I get a couple of those guys.

In this business you can go from the outhouse to the penthouse and the penthouse to the outhouse real quick.

That's why I said I would appreciate it if you would print how hard my assistant coaches worked. We threw everything at them, the kitchen sink, the cars, the dogs, everything.

UMES Junior Guard Corey Brown (30 points, 6 rebounds):

We tried to throw different things at them by changing our defense up with many different sets. They are used to playing a fast game and we slowed them down in the first half.

We wanted to try and take Aaron Andrews out of the game, he hurt us last time and in the first half he wasn't as much as a factor.

I know that this year I know how it feels to lose, be the team that is knocked off. Next year I have to step my game up 100 percent, if I am the leader I want to lead by example.
