WASHINGTON (AP) -Maureece Rice had 18 points and Wynton Witherspoon added 11 to help George Washington end a three-game skid with a 78-39 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Wednesday night.

Rob Diggs had 10 rebounds for the Colonials (3-3), who were off to their worst five-game start in seven seasons under coach Karl Hobbs.

Marc Davis scored 10 points off the bench to lead the Hawks (1-8), who missed their first seven shots from the field and lost its seventh game in a row.

George Washington forced 10 turnovers in the first half, and UMES shot just 21 percent for the game.

George Washington led 39-16 at halftime after Witherspoon hit a 3-pointer and Rice's scored a basket to cap a 9-0 run. A dunk by Witherspoon stretched George Washington's lead 59-22 with 8:37 to play, and it grew to 40 points with just over two minutes to go.
