PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Junior guard Quincy Douby had a game-high 18 points, added five steals and dished out four assists, and Rutgers was in control throughout in a 92-50 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore Wednesday night.

Freshman point guard Anthony Farmer added 15 points and five assists for Rutgers (6-1), which won its third straight, while the Hawks (2-6) lost for the fifth time in six games. It was the first time in Farmer's brief career that he did not increase his point total from the previous game. He scored a career-high 16 against Saint Mary's in Rutgers' last victory.

Freshman forward JR Inman added 12 points, five rebounds four blocks and three steals for Rutgers. Junior center Byron Joynes, freshman swingman Jaron Griffin and sophomore forward Ollie Bailey each had 10 points as Rutgers had six players in double figures for the first time since 2003. Joynes added 10 rebounds as he posted his first career `double-double.'

Ed Tyson had 11 for UMES, while Tim Parham and Terrell Harris had 10 each to lead the Hawks.

Rutgers stormed to a 14-0 lead and opened its largest lead at 32-11 but the Hawks fought back to draw to within 12 points before the half ended at 46-32. Harris kept the Hawks within striking distance with 10 points on 4-for-4 shooting.

Holding a 48-34 lead early in the second half, Rutgers scored 10 straight points and UMES never got the deficit under 20 for the rest of the game.

Rutgers, which entered the game tied for fourth in the BIG EAST in scoring defense, limited Maryland Eastern Shore to just 50 points, marking the third time in seven games this season that the Scarlet Knights have held an opponent to 50 points or less in a game. For the season, Rutgers is limiting its opponents to an average of 55.6 points per game

 

 

UMES is next in action on Saturday, Dec. 10 when they open MEAC play at Howard. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m.
