Dec. 21, 2004 The Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks (UMES) dropped their fifth straight contest Tuesday night, falling to the TCU Horned Frogs 93-53 in a non-conference game in Fort Worth, TX. TCU broke open the game with a 26-0 run in the opening minutes and never looked back. After the Hawks (1-7, 0-2 MEAC) tied the game 2-2 with 19:22 remaining in the first half on a lay-up by Aly Samabaly, the Horned Frogs (7-4, 0-0 CUSA) took command over the next 7 ½ minutes, scoring the game's next 26 points to take a 28-2 lead with 11:58 left before halftime. TCU forced eight UMES turnovers during the run and shot 10-18 from the field, while UMES went 0-9 on field goals in that stretch. Marcus Shropshire made three 3-pointers during the run, while transfer Judson Stubbs scored nine points off the bench during the spurt, as the two combined for 18 of TCU's 26 points in the decisive run. The Hawks responded with an 8-0 run of their own over the next two minutes to pull within 28-10, helped by a Corey Brown three-pointer and two Jason McKinnon lay-ups. TCU came right back with a 15-2 run, putting the Horned Frogs ahead 43-12 with 4:59 left in the half. The Horned Frogs led by 35 points at halftime, 54-19. UMES shot the ball much better in the second half, putting up 34 points after halftime and shooting 13-25 from the field (52%). Brown hit three three-point shots after halftime en route to 11 second-half points. TCU was led by Stubbs' 20 points (8-10 FG's) and four rebounds, while Stropshire added 18 points, including five three-point makes. Corey Santee and Aaron Curtis chipped in 14 points apiece. Brown led the Hawks with a career-high 17 points (6-11 FG's) to go along with three steals, but had eight of the Hawks 29 turnovers. Jason McKinnon just missed his third-career double-double, collecting 12 points and nine rebounds.
The Hawks conclude their current three-game road trip with a match-up against Baylor Wednesday night in Waco, TX. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 pm ET from the Ferrell Center. |
