Jan. 4, 2010 PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Senior April McBride (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and redshirt freshman James Cotton (Pokomoke City, Md.) have been named University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athlete of the Week Monday for the period ending Jan. 3. McBride, a guard/forward on the women's basketball team, was named to the Georgia State Invitational All-Tournament after helping lead the Lady Hawks to a 1-1 record for the week. UMES topped Mississippi Valley State, 61-49, before falling in the championship game of the tournament to Georgia State, 76-49. McBride shot 45.5 percent (15-of-33) from the field with 37 points and 18 rebounds. She also had five steals, four assists and two blocks. McBride just missed double-doubles in both games with 25 points and nine boards against the Devilettes and 12 points and nine rebounds versus the Panthers. UMES (2-5, 1-0 MEAC) is back on the road Monday (Jan. 4) at 7 p.m. against American. Cotton, a forward on the men's basketball team scored a combined 10 points in a pair of losses to Ball State (56-47) and Nebraska (74-60) last week. He pulled down six rebounds and had two blocks, one steal and one assist. The Hawks (3-9, 1-0 MEAC) face Oklahoma at 8 p.m. on Monday.
