Feb. 1, 2010 PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Junior Martha Perez (Bogota, Columbia) and redshirt sophomore Hillary Haley (Oxon Hill, Md.) have been named University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the period ending Jan. 31. Perez, a member of the second-ranked women's bowling team, helped the Lady Hawks to their third consecutive event win at the Kutztown Invitational in Reading, Pa., last weekend. Perez was named to the all-tournament team for the third straight week with a 217 average and 1,302 total pins. Four of the six games she rolled she totaled more than 200 pins and had a high game of 255 in a win over Howard. UMES (80-19) travels to Dover, Del., for the Delaware State Capital Classic next weekend. Haley, a 6-foot-6, 205-pound guard on the men's basketball team, led the Hawks to a 1-1 week. UMES fell to Morgan State, 91-54, on Jan. 25 before clipping Howard, 67-66, on Saturday. Haley was 11-of-17 from the floor against the Bison with a career-high 33 points. He also had a career seven 3-pointers to go along with five rebounds and one steal. He scored 23 of the Hawks' last 28 points in the win. UMES (6-14, 4-3) faces Hampton Monday at 7:30 p.m. |
