NORFOLK, Va - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Men's and Women's Basketball teams travel to Virginia for a match-up against Norfolk State University (NSU) tonight in Echols Hall. The Lady Hawks (14-10, 7-4 MEAC) enter the game on a two game skid after losing to North Carolina A&T on Saturday, 105-79. April McBride (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle H.S.) collected her eighth double-double of the season for UMES (14-10, 7-4 MEAC) with 25 points and 14 rebounds. Tiffany Reid (Philadelphia, Pa./National Christian Academy) added 19 points, while Queenique Tyler (Ft. Washington, Md./Potomac H.S.) posted a career-high with 13 points. Chena Parker (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Manhattan Center for Science and Math) also chipped in with 12 points.
NSU (4-17, 1-10 MEAC) enters the match having lost three straight, including an 81-55 decision to Delaware State on Saturday. Raychele Payne leads the Spartan offensive attack with 15 points per game, while Areya Walker is chipping in 11.9 points and a team-high 9.1 rebounds per game. The Hawks (4-22, 2-9 MEAC) two-game winning streak was upended by North Carolina A&T on Saturday, 95-85. Ed Tyson (Baltimore, Md./Walbrook H.S.) led UMES with a game-high 30 points on a perfect five-of-five shooting from downtown, while Gary Lee (Flint, Mich./Northwestern University) finished with a career-high 17 points, including 15 in the second half, on six-of-nine shooting from the field. Ishmawiyl McFadden (Philadelphia, Pa./Simon Gratz H.S.) followed a career-high performance with a solid 13 points off the bench. BJ Nimocks (Detroit, Mich./Cloud County C.C.) rounded out the Hawks double digit scoring as he added 10 points to go along with seven boards. Denzel Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa./Lincoln H.S.) collected a career-high 12 rebounds to add to his eight points.
NSU (13-10, 9-2 MEAC) comes in on a four game winning streak and winners of 11 out of their last 13 contests, including a 65-63 victory over Delaware State on Monday. The Spartans are led by Tony Murphy, Pre-Season All-MEAC First Team Selection, with 17.1 points per game, while Cory Lyons is adding 14.2 points per game. UMES dropped the first game to NSU this season at home, 84-65.
