VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore's (UMES) Ed Tyson (Baltimore, Md./Walbrook H.S.) has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) Player of the Week for the week ending on February 17, 2008. Tyson has a stellar week, dropping 24 points in the Hawks' upset win over Hampton live on ESPNU on Monday night and dropping 30 points in a loss to North Carolina A&T State (NCAT) on Saturday.

The junior guard averaged 27 points and three rebounds over those two games as they picked up an important MEAC win. He was solid from the field, shooting 54 percent from the floor and 71 percent from behind the arc. He was a perfect five of five from downtown in the game vs. NCAT. Against the Pirates of Hampton his 24 points went along with six rebounds, two assists and five steals as UMES toppled the MEAC pre-season's top team.

Tyson is averaging 20 points a game for the Hawks and leads the MEAC in scoring.

Two UMES freshmen, Denzel Jackson and Ishmawiyl McFadden both received honorable mention honors. Jackson tallied nine rebounds against Hampton and 12 boards against N.C. A&T with three blocks and two steals for a solid defensive effort last week for the Hawks. McFadden averaged 13.5 points, three rebounds and 1.5 steals for UMES.

Norfolk State's Brandon Monore was named the Rookie of the Week while Morgan State's Boubacar Coly was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week.
