March 4, 2010
DOVER, Del. - Post-season seeding in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament will be determined tonight after the University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team takes on Delaware State at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Hall.
The Hawks are currently 10-19 on the season and 8-7 in MEAC play. With a win, UMES will receive a four or five seed in the tournament and receive a first-round bye.
In the first matchup of the season, the Hawks defeated the Hornets for the first time since 2004 and the first time at the W.P. Hytche Athletic Center since 2001. This is the 93rd matchup between the Route 13 rivals and DSU leads the series, 48-44.
Despite a 29.2 first half field goal percentage and trailing by seven at the half, UMES overtook the Horents, 53-50, in the MEAC season opener. Redshirt sophomore Hillary Haley (Oxon Hill, Md.) led all scorers with 14 points.
In their most recent contest, DSU fell, 64-45, to Hampton on Saturday and moved to 15-11 overall and 10-5 in the MEAC. The Hornets lost for the second time in three games and were led by Marcus Neal with 12 points.
