PRINCESS ANNE, MD - Former Maryland-Eastern Shore men's basketball player Tim Parham was invited to take part in the 2006 Rare Caliber All-Star Challenge, hosted by Hofstra University on April 27-29.

The Rare Caliber All-Star Challenge, partnered by the NBA Retired Players Association, is a post-season, pre-draft invitational basketball tournament created to provide college seniors with a unique opportunity to showcase their basketball talents.

Sixty-four top performing seniors from Division I colleges and universities across the country were invited to participate in the three day tournament. All thirty NBA teams, as well as teams in Europe, Asia, South America and throughout the world sent their representatives and scouts to assess the assembled talent.

Each team of eight players was coached under the direction of former NBA players including Tim Hardaway, Rod Strickland and Robert Reid. Former Seattle Supersonics standout and Maryland-Eastern Shore alum Talvin Skinner was the coach of Parham's team, a squad that also featured fellow MEAC star Tony Tate of Florida A&M University.

All net proceeds will support the efforts of MPowering Kids, a not-for-profit academic program, which provides tutoring, mentoring, and cultural enrichment to at-risk, underprivileged children.
