PRINCESS ANNE, MD - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball head coach Larry Lessett will be a scheduled guest speaker at the Stay in School Rally at Cecil Elementary School on Wednesday, June 8, 2005. Coach Lessett will join University of Connecticut's Head Coach Jim Calhoun, Georgetown Universities Head Coach John Thompson III, and University of Virginia's Head Coach Dave Leitao in talking to area students.

The rally, which will be attended by Baltimore area student's grade 3-5, is presented by the City of Baltimore in order to send a message not only to stay in school, but to also succeed in becoming a quality individual through education and experience.

"Basketball coaches are just the people to do this sort of thing for area youths," said Anthony Lewis, Director of the Cecil-Kirk Recreation Center. "These coaches are role models and are used to shaping young people into quality individuals who become successful both on and off the court. What better people to relay the message of staying in school to area youths, than area coaches."

Also scheduled to speak are the head coaches from Fordham University, Derrick Whittenburg, Towson University, Pat Kennedy, Loyola University, Jimmy Patsos, Hartford University, Larry Harrison, and Morgan State University, Al "Butch" Beard.
