PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Head Coach Frankie Allen is a legend at Roanoke College. All-everything player turned successful coach is one of the school's shining alumni. Now the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) has hired another Roanoke graduate in Curtis Peery. Peery hopes to follow in Allen's footsteps, one day becoming a successful head coach.
"We are thrilled to have someone of Curtis's caliber," said Allen. "He was a standout player who has a good head for the game and a thirst to learn the business. Curtis will be a big help to our program."
Peery graduated in 2009 with a degree in marketing and has worked several basketball camps throughout his college career, including the Roanoke College Basketball Camp and the Dell Curry Basketball Camp.
He earned numerous awards as a player including All-VaSID First Team, All-South Region Second Team and All-ODAC (Old Dominion Athletic Conference) First Team in his senior season. He was also a member of four All-Tournament Teams including the MVP of the CNU Invitational. Peery was a three-time ODAC All-Conference selection.
Peery and the UMES Men's Basketball Team get their season underway Saturday, November 7th when they host Stevenson in an exhibition contest at the W.P. Hytche Athletic Center.
