PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team has released its 2013-14 schedule, it was announced today. The Hawks are set to play 29 regular season contests, 13 of which will be held at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center. UMES has scheduled 16 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference matches as well.

The Hawks opens up the year with its maroon & gray scrimmage game on Nov. 1, before the squad hits the road for New York City to play Columbia University eight days later. Last season, Columbia went 12-16 overall and 4-10 in the Ivy League. The Hawks will look to keep up their success against Rt. 13 rival, Salisbury University, when they host the Sea Gulls in their home opener on Nov. 12.

Two days later, UMES will fly to the University of Iowa. The team will engage in battle with the Hawkeyes, who went 25-13 last year with a runner-up finish in the National Invitational Tournament (NIT). Their return from Iowa features two games to conclude the month when they host Mount St. Mary's (Md.) on Nov. 20 and then play at Navy on Nov. 26.

The Hawks continue with a trip to UMBC on Dec. 2, before taking the next two weeks off. The maroon and gray will then travel across the country on Dec. 15 to take on Pac-12 opponent, Oregon St. The men trek back east with a bout in West Lafayette, Ind., against Purdue on Dec. 17. UMES will not have much time off as it hosts Wilmington and American in the fourth week of the month, before concluding the year at Virginia Tech on Dec. 31.

UMES opens up 2014 at Mississippi St. on Jan. 2, before getting into its MEAC schedule. The Hawks travel to Savannah St. and South Carolina St. on Jan. 6 and 8, respectively. A year ago, Savannah St. was the lone MEAC representative at the 2013 CollegeInsider.com postseason tournament. The team then hosts Norfolk St.,the 2012-13 MEAC regular season champion, on Jan. 11. The Spartans swept conference play a year ago with a 16-0 record and proceeded to play in the NIT.

Play will then slow down for the team across the next three weeks to close out January. UMES engages in just three contests within the period, but will come back to the Hytche to host six of their next seven games (all in conference). The lone road game is at Hampton on Feb. 10.

UMES plays at Delaware St., on Feb. 22 and then hosts Hampton on Feb. 24. The month of March begins with bouts at Coppin St. and Norfolk St., before the team closes the regular season with a home match against Delaware St.

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference is set to begin on March 10 and will continue on until March 15. The tournament will once again be held at Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va.
