Oct. 14, 2008
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced that on February 2, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) men's and women's basketball double-header will be broadcast live on ESPNU starting at 4:30 p.m. They will be taking on defending MEAC tournament champions Coppin State at home in the William P. Hytche Center.
Last season, the UMES men's team dropped two tough losses to the Eagles, the first of which was 59-54. The Lady Hawks split their series with Coppin, winning the first meeting 69-62.
Coppin dominated the MEAC tournament with both men's and women's teams winning the championship. The men edged out Morgan State 62-60, while the women topped North Carolina A&T 72-70. Both teams fell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The men were defeated by Mount St. Mary, 69-60, and the Eagles were bested by number one ranked University of Maryland 80-66.
The MEAC will highlight 11 men's and four women's regular season games this year, including the tournament championships, as a part of their seven year partnership with ESPN. The double-header will include the conference's women's television debut.
