HAWKS ENGAGE IN FINAL TEST BEFORE REGULAR SEASON, HOST MAROON AND GRAY GAME
Nov. 1, 2013
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men’s basketball team will participate in their final tune-up before the start of the regular season tonight, as the Hawks host their annual Maroon and Gray game at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center at 7 p.m. The game features one team of eight and one team of seven, with the four assistant coaches teaming up in groups of two. Admission to the event is free.
Let’s look at the teams for tonight:
The maroon squad will be led by junior guard KyRee Jones (Indianapolis, Ind.) and senior forward Troy Snyder (Chicago, Ill.). Jones was named a 2012 College Hoops Daily First Half All-Conference Team and concluded the season with a team-high 13.6 points-per-game. Snyder will man the forward position for the team after he was named to the 2013 All-MEAC Preseason Second Team.
Junior guard Ishaq Pitt (Brooklyn, N.Y.) will wear don the maroon and was one of three players to play in all 28 games a year ago. Junior transfer Devon Walker (Philadelphia, Pa.) will play forward after he was named a 2013-All Region Second Team honoree at Globe Tech, while senior guard Louis Bell (Washington, D.C.) and freshman forward Shane Randall (Philadelphia, Pa.) will see time as well. The maroon will also have two walk-ons on its roster in Anfernee Robinson and Maceio Choice.
The team will be coached by assistant coach Kevin Jones and graduate assistant coach Charles Fasnacht.
The gray team looks to be paced by senior center Francis Ezeiru (Enugu, Nigeria), freshman guard Hakeem Baxter (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior forward transfers Issac Smith III (Chicago, Ill.) and Iman Johnson (Milwaukee, Wisc.). Ezeiru is UMES’ top returning big man from last season and the 6’10 forward averaged nearly six rebounds-per-game last year.
Baxter was named MEAC Newcomer of the Year by Lindy’s Sports after a phenomenal prep career at P.E.T Charter, while Smith had put together a solid preseason effort after transferring from Lee College (Tx.). Johnson will man a forward spot for the gray team as well.
The team will be coached by assistant coach Marlon “Shark” Terry and assistant coach Curtis Peery.
