UMES BASKETBALL RETURNS TO SFMSPORTS.NET

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- The University of Maryland Eastern Shore athletics department is happy to announce that Hawks men's and women's basketball will return to the radio air waves this season, brought to fans by SFMSports.Net for the second straight season.
This season, Hawks men's basketball can be heard all across the Maryland Eastern Shore area, including WAMS-FM 101.1 in Snow Hill, WGOP 540 AM in Pocomoke City and WAMS-AM 1590 AM in Ocean City. UMES women's basketball returns to WGOP, the home of Hawks volleyball as well.
In addition, all games will be streamed online for free on the Hawks Radio Network home page on SFMSports.Net. Plus, this season SFMSports.Net has expanded its coverage to allow fans to download an app to be able to listen on your smartphone.
"We feel that this partnership is fantastic to allow our fans access to keep in touch with UMES basketball," says associate athletic director G. Stan Bradley, "we hope fans enjoy hearing Hawks basketball on SFMSports.Net."
SFMSports.Net was launched in 2009 by Steve Clendenin as a broadcast network for college and high school sports. Headquartered in Perry Hall, Maryland, SFMSports.Net also works with Stevenson University, Salisbury University and numerous high schools in Maryland and Delaware.
"`I am looking forward to a win-win partnership between SFMSports.Net and UMES for the second year," says Clendenin, "Our recent internet and online streaming enhancements will allow Hawks fans, alumni and supporters to listen to the games live from anywhere in the world, online and on smartphones."
Bret Lasky is back as the voice of UMES basketball for his fourth season. Lasky serves as the Director of Broadcasting and Graphic Design for the Salisbury-based Delmarva Shorebirds, the single-Aminor league baseball affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.
Pregame and postgame host Dave Vatz also returns for his third season with UMES, and will also be the backup play-by-play. Vatz is the voice and media relations contact of UMES volleyball and baseball.
Color analyst Dave Byrd comes back for his ninth season with UMES and will give commentary for all home basketball games. Coach Byrd is the athletic director at Pocomoke High School and earned a state championship as the boy's basketball coach in 2002.
The broadcast will be on Monday, November 5th when the Hawks renew a local rivalry with a men's basketball exhibition against Salisbury at 7 p.m. at the Hytche Athletic Center. UMES women's basketball premieres on Wednesday, November 7th in Princess Anne with a 6 p.m. match against Wilmington.
