HAWKS TRAVEL TO DELAWARE TO OPEN CONFERENCE PLAY

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. —The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men’s basketball team will face Route-13 North rival Delaware State Saturday, Dec. 1 at 3:00 p.m. The Hawks (0-6) are looking for its first win of the 2012 season.
Its first six games have been in two different tournaments. UMES opened the season against the University of Hawaii in the Outrigger Hotel and Resorts Tournament, and then faced the University of South Florida Nov. 16-18 in the USF Invitational. The Hawks’ Troy Snyder was named to the USF Invitational All-Tournament Team following his performances against USF, Western Michigan and Loyola University-Chicago. Snyder is averaging 10.3 points per game, with a season-high 17 points scored against the University of Hawaii.
Teammate Kyree Jones is averaging 12.7 PPG at the guard position, and tallied 20-plus points on two occasions. He registered a season-high 28 points versus Houston Baptist, and a follow-up performance scoring 21 points against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
Delaware State (3-5) will face the Hawks for the first time this season. The Hornets three wins game against Gwynedd-Mercy (74-56), Cairn (95-46) and a 73-69 overtime win against Wagner. Tahj Tate posted a season-high 23 points against Northwestern. Delaware State is averaging 63.2 PPG, which is 8.7 PPG better than the Hawks (54.5).
