PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - There were five teams in action for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore athletics program this past week. The bowling team went 10-0 to win the MEAC North Division meet, while the volleyball team concluded its season with a 3-0 loss to No. 10 Nebraska in the NCAA First Round. The basketball teams were swept at Delaware State and four men's indoor track student-athletes recorded top-10 finishes at the Navy Invitational.

Let's take a look at action from this past week:

BOWLING

The bowling team went 10-0 to win the MEAC North Division Meet in Baltimore, Md., this past weekend. The squad dominated Baker Player and Team Games in each of the two days.

UMES was led by junior Megan Buja (Rockford, Ill.), who posted a pinfall of 1,205. In the team games, she bowled over 230 in all five, including a high of 248. Buja was closely followed by senior Anggie Ramirez (Bogota, Colombia), who notched a pinfall of 1,111. Ramirez finished the tournament with a 245 score against Morgan State on Sunday.

The pair were the only two Hawks to bowl in all five team games.

INDOOR TRACK

The UMES men's track and field team traveled to Annapolis, Md., to compete in the Navy Invitational on Saturday. The Hawks were led by sophomore Dillon Simon (Roseau, Dominica), who placed first in the shotput with a heave of 16.10m. His throw was 1.3m farther than the closest competitor and it qualified him for the IC4A meet later in the year.

Senior Codjo Gbedo (New Carrollton, Md.) finished 10th in the 800m run (2:00.19), while junior Denvil Ruan (Antigua, B.W.I.) was ninth in the long jump with a 6.42 height cleared. Sophomore Rico Duncan (Cheveny, Md.) was also ninth in the shotput with a throw of 13.43m.

The meet was not a team scoring meet.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

The men's basketball team dropped a 76-66 decision at Delaware State this past Saturday.

The Hawks fell behind early in the game and were unable to close the difference as DSU continued to pressure throughout the game. UMES was benefitted by a 6-13 performance from three-point range in the second half.

The men were led by sophomore Kyree Jones (Indianapolis, Ind.), who posted a team-high 24 points behind a 6-11 shooting performance from the floor. Senior Troy Snyder (Chicago, Ill.) notched 15 points and five steals in a game-high 40 minutes of action.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

The women's basketball team fell 67-52 to Delaware State this past Saturday.

The Hawks came out of the gates strong as the women were just two points behind at the half. UMES was unable to tame a hot Hornet offense in the second-half as the team dropped its third game of the season. UMES was hurt by a 48-percent clip from the free-throw line, but outrebounded DSU, 44-28 altogether.

The women were led by senior Karona Roach (Bear, Del.), who had 14 points, six steals and five rebounds. Freshman Ashleigh Claybrooks (Manassas, Va.) had a game-high nine rebounds and chipped in with four points.
