Dec. 7, 2009 PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Senior April McBride (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and sophomore Tyler Hines (Sicklerville, N.J.) have been named University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week Monday for the period ending Dec. 6. McBride, a guard/forward on the women's basketball team, scored a game-high 25 points in a 74-61 win in the Lady Hawks' home opener against Delaware State Saturday (Dec. 5). She shot 11-of-17 from the field and pulled down eight rebounds She also was also 3-for-3 from the line and had four assists and one steal in 27 minutes. It was the second consecutive week McBride has been named UMES Athlete of the Week. UMES (1-3, 1-0) are back in action Monday (Dec. 7) facing Iona at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center at 6 p.m. Hines, a forward on the men's basketball team, helped the Hawks to a 53-50 MEAC-opening win over the Hornets. Hines grabbed a team-high seven boards, including four on the defensive end and added five points. He also had a steal in 20 minutes. UMES (2-5, 1-0) next hosts Navy Wednesday (Dec. 9) at 7 p.m.
