Dec. 28, 2009 PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Redshirt junior Tim Burns (Franklinville, N.J.) has been named University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athlete of the Week Monday for the period ending Dec. 27. Burns, a guard on the men's basketball team, scored a career-high 29 points on 9-for-16 shooting in a 87-69 loss at Northern Illinois on Dec. 22. It marked the most points by a UMES player since Ed Tyson had 30 on Feb. 16, 2008 at North Carolina A&T. Burns was 10-of-12 from the free-throw line, had one rebound, one steal and one block in a career-best 37 minutes. The 10 free throws and nine field goals were also career highs for Burns at UMES. The Hawks (3-7, 1-0 MEAC) are back on the road at Ball State in Muncie, Ind., Monday at 7 p.m.
