VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shores' (UMES) Denzel Jackson (Forward, 6-6, 190, Fr., Philadelphia, Pa./Lincoln H.S.) can add Mid-Eastern Athletic (MEAC) Rookie of the Week to his resume after receiving the accolade for his performance in a non-conference contest the week ending December 23.

Jackson recorded his first double-double of his career in a loss against Navy with 11 points and 11 rebounds. He finished four-of-six from the field, while adding two steals.

Jackson was previously awarded MEAC Defensive Player of the Week.

On the season, Jackson is averaging a team-high 7.4 rebounds and 1.77 steals per game, which is good for third and fourth in the MEAC respectively. In addition, he is third on the team in scoring with seven points per game.

The MEAC chose Jamar Smith of Morgan State as Player of the Week, while Larry Vickers of Norfolk State was announced as Defensive Player of the Week.

UMES will travel to Omaha, Nebraska for their first game of 2008 as they take on the University of Nebraska on Friday, January 4. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 E.T. and can be heard on WTGM-AM 960 The Team.
