PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – This week’s short edition of Hawk Talk features UMES Athletes of the Week and men’s basketball result against American University.

Let’s begin:

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Last Monday (12/23), the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) men’s basketball junior guard KyRee Jones (Indianapolis, Ind.) was named UMES Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC) Athlete of the Week, along with Alexis Udoji (women’s basketball), for the second time this season. Jones registered back-to-back 20+ performances versus top-tier non-conference opponents, Oregon State (12/15) and Purdue (12/17).

Yesterday (12/29), the men's basketball team fell to American University, 71-58, in the final home contest of the 2013 year. UMES was paced by Hakeem Baxter (Philadelphia, Pa.), who had a team-high 13 points and five boards. Jones had 12 points and freshman Shane Randall (Philadelphia, Pa.) had a career-high 10 points and four rebounds.

Tomorrow (12/31), the Hawks head to Blacksburg, Va. to square off against Virginia Tech. Tip-off is slated for 4:00 p.m. (EST)

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

On Dec. 23rd, UMES women’s basketball sophomore forward/center Alexis Udoji (Randolph, Mass.) earned UMES PRMC Athlete of the Week, alongside KyRee Jones (men’s basketball), for the second time this season as she posted double-figures points against #20 Oklahoma (12/15) and Mount St. Mary’s (12/17).

Later today, the Lady Hawks return to the hardwood to face the Lady Bulldogs of South Carolina State University. Game-time is set for 5:30 p.m. (EST)
