Final Stats

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - It was a banner weekend for University of Maryland Eastern Shore junior golfer Michael Veverka (Brunswick, Md.) as he shot the best three rounds of his collegiate career to finish two-over-par and lead the golf team to an eighth-place finish at the PGM Minority Collegiate Golf Championship. The Hawks finished with 962 points, which was nearly 25 strokes better than the closest competitor.

The play on Sunday was the final action at the 27th PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship presented by Brown Capital Management.

Veverka used an even-par 72 in Sunday's final round to finish the tournament with a 218. His tally helped him secure a fifth-place overall finish amongst Division I scoring schools. He began the tournament with consecutive rounds of 73, before his fantastic round on the last day.

Junior Michael Ferguson (Vorhees, N.J.) was the second-best golfer of the tournament for UMES after he finished the event with 243 points. His score was aided by an even-par round of 72 in the second round. Freshman Jon Seward (Ft. Washington, Md.) followed Ferguson's score with a 249 as he shot two round of atleast ten-under-par to claim the Hawks' third spot.

Junior Paul Cecil (Severn, Md.) used an 88-82-87 to finish with 257 points, while junior Christopher Toney (La Plata, Md.) was the final Hawk performer with a 260.

Bethune-Cookman claimed the top spot for both the men's and women's sections. The BC men emurged from second-place after the second round to take the top spot. Defending champion Texas Pan-American was one stroke higher (884) to finish second, while Alabama State shot a 301 on the final day to take third-place with 895 combined strokes.
