ATLANTA, Ga. – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore golf team concluded its season opening road trip on Sunday as the Hawks finished in sixth-place at the Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Invitational. The team used a balanced effort to finish in the upper tier of teams at the 19 team event, where UMES shot all eight rounds under 80. The tournament saw four MEAC schools represented and a total of 11 Division I programs.

Senior Michael Veverka (Brunswick, Md.) shot consecutive rounds of one-over-par (73) to lead UMES. With the scores, Veverka lowered his average on the season to 74. Freshman Norman Blanco (New Orleans, La.) was the next golfer for UMES to place with a 75, 77 in the two rounds.

Sophomore Jon Seward (Ft. Washington, Md.) tied Blanco with 152 strokes after consecutive 76s, while senior Paul Cecil (Severn, Md.) shot a five-over-par score of 77 on day one and a 79 on the second day.

UMES returns to action next weekend with a berth in the Holiday Inn Colonial Classic in Pittsburgh, Pa. Last season, the Hawks dominated par-3 play to finish fifth at the event.
