PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Senior Michael Veverka (Brunswick, Md.) placed eighth amongst 33 golfers to lead the University of Maryland Eastern Shore golf team to a sixth-place finish at the RMU Colonial Classic. UMES used an 11-stroke improvement on day two at the par-72, Shadow Lakes Golf Course to conclude play with 677 points.

Veverka’s eight-place finish marks the second time this season that he has finished in the top-10 at an event. He began the tournament with a six-over-par score of 78 on Monday, before finishing up with a 74 on the final day. His effort on the second day was the sixth best amongst the entire field.

The senior was followed by freshman Norman Blanco (New Orleans, La.), who used an 81, 84 to place 23rd. Freshman Bryan Martin (Baltimore, Md.) participated in the first golf tournament of his collegiate career and finished 27th for UMES with a final tally of 172.

The scoring was rounded out by was senior Sedrick Bailey (Baltimore, Md.). Bailey improved one shot from the first day and finished in 33rd. Junior Richard Fleming (Upper Malboro, Md.) finished in 32nd as an individual.

UMES will take a month off before concluding their fall schedule at the Tiger Invitational in Savannah, Ga., on Nov. 9-10. Last season, UMES improved 22 strokes from the first day to place fifth at the Crosswinds Golf Course.
