NORFOLK, Va. - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference released its 2014 Men's Golf All-Academic Team on Friday and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore golf team had five players represented. The five student-athletes were among a group of 22 golfers that qualified with grade point averages over 3.0. UMES tied for the most recipients on the list with North Carolina Central, who also had five.

The list included seniors Paul Cecil (Severn, Md.) and Michael Veverka (Brunswick, Md.), juniors Michael Ferguson (Vorhees, N.J.) and Kevin Odell (Snow Hill, Md.) and sophomore Jon Seward (Ft. Washington, Md.). The award is the third consecutive for both Cecil and Veverka, while Odell and Ferguson each claim it for the second time. It is the first time that Seward has been distinguished with the honor.

UMES will begin its quest at a MEAC championship today, when the men compete in the first round of the event at the Crosswinds Golf Course in Savannah, Ga. The three-round championship will be played from April 25-27 and will begin at 8 a.m. each day.
