UMES HALL OF FAMER FRED ENGH SPONSORING THE JAM FOR SAM EVENT
July 24, 2012
OCEAN CITY, Md. -- On Friday, July 27th, UMES Athletics Hall of Fame member Fred Engh will be part of the 8th Annual "Jam for Sam" in Ocean City to help raise money for the Sammy Wilkinson Memorial Foundation.
The Sammy Wilkinson Memorial Foundation was created by Engh, founder of the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS), in memory of his grandson, who tragically passed away in 2003. The Foundation helps raise money to donate sports equipment to communities across the country. NAYS is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping youth sports experience throughout the world.
The event begins with a golf tournament at the Newport Bay Course at the Ocean City Golf Club, with a shotgun start set for 10 a.m. Then later at Seacrets Bar and Grill at 5 p.m., the event continues with live music, food, and a silent auction and raffle to raise money for the Foundation.
Fred Engh was elected to the UMES Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2012. Engh was part of the CIAA and NIAA District 31 Golf Championship Team with Maryland State College in 1961.
