PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore golf team continues its fall schedule this weekend when the men head up to Pittsburgh, Pa., to compete in the Holiday Inn Colonial Classic on Oct. 7-8. The tournament will once again be held at The Club at Shadow Lakes, a par-72, 6,570-yard course. Head Coach Marshall Cropper will send six student-athletes on the trip this year.

Last season, the team finished fifth at the event. The two-day tournament saw the team open action with a 330 on day one, before they registered the fourth-best score on the final day. UMES finished with a total of 646 points and had all five of its registered players land top-30 scores. The Hawks were the second-best school at the event in par-3 scoring with an average of 3.43.

Senior captain Michael Veverka (Brunswick, Md.) looks to lead the team for the third consecutive tournament. Veverka is averaging a 74 across four rounds this season, including a program-best 69 on his first round of the year at the Myrtle Beach Invitational. Freshman Norman Blanco (New Orleans, La.) has opened his collegiate career as UMES’ second golfer and shot a 75, 77 last weekend in Atlanta, Ga.

The pair will be followed by four others, including senior Sedrick Bailey (Baltimore, Md.), junior Richard Fleming (Upper Marlboro, Md.), sophomore Bryan Martin (Baltimore, Md.) and sophomore Kevin Odell (Snow Hill, Md.). All four will be making their first appearances for UMES this season.
