Nov. 7, 2011
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Sophomores Megan Buja (Rockford, Ill.) and Christopher Toney (La Plata, Md.) have been named the Peninsula Regional Medical Center University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletes of the Week for the week of Nov. 7. This is the first time this season that either student-athlete has received this award.
Toney was the top performer for the men's golf team this weekend at the Savannah State University Tiger Fall Golf Invitational. The sophomore shot an 82 on the first day of the tournament before registering a score of 85 on Sunday. Toney ended up with a final tally of 167, good for a +23 score and a 33rd place finish. His efforts paced UMES to a fifth-place finish.
Buja earned All-Tournament Team honors this past weekend at the 2011 New Jersey Jamboree, hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson University. Buja paced the Hawks to a fifth place overall finish in their season opener, averaging a 213 over five games with a high game of 231 in the win against No. 11 Adelphi. In all five games she tallied over 200 and saw action in seven of the Hawks' Baker-format matches.
The golf team has now concluded its fall schedule while the women's bowling team resumes action in the MEAC Northern Division Meet on Saturday, Nov. 12 at noon.
