Orlando, Fla. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Men's Tennis Team got their team season underway today with the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Round-Up, pitting the northern schools against the southern ones. It wasn't a great opening day as the Hawks fell to Florida A & M and South Carolina State Universities (SCSU), both by scores of 7-0. In the opening match of the day the Hawks (0-2) faced the Rattlers and got solid outings from Christopher Clarke and freshman Kishan Sudusinghe. Clarke, playing the #2 spot fell to FAMU's Frank Green 6-2, 6-2. Sudusinghe fell at the #1 spot 6-0, 6-2. The doubles team of Clarke and Harold Fowler lost their match 8-1 to Sibarashee Happy and Jarrell Williams. In the afternoon match the Hawks took on the Bulldogs of SCSU and Sudusinghe again played well, falling to Dimitri Lomakin, 6-1, 6-1. Fowler and Kapila Pilimatalauwe both fell in their matches 6-1, 6-0. Clarke and Sudusinghe dropped their doubles competition to Andrew Mawire and Ionut Hurcud 8-2. The Hawks are back in action on February 24, 2006 taking on Bethune-Cookman College at 1:30 pm in the MEAC Round-Up.
