MEN'S TENNIS CONCLUDES MEAC PLAY WITH TWO LOSSES AT HAMPTON
April 9, 2012
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – Sophomore Malcolm Johnson (Silver Spring, Md.) won three games at No. 1 singles, but it was not enough, as the University of Maryland Eastern Shore men’s tennis team was swept in a double header by Hampton University on Saturday. The team lost 7-0 in the first match, before falling 4-0 in the nightcap.
UMES (0-16, 0-4 MEAC) opened its first match with three straight 8-0 losses in doubles play. The men saw Johnson lose a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Alvin Fludd at top singles, before the Hawks were swept in the next five singles matches.
The second match saw much of the same results as the first, where the Hawks lost four consecutive 8-0 decisions. Hampton would improve its record to 4-7 overall and 3-0 in the MEAC with the two victories.
The Hawks will conclude their regular season on Thursday, April 12, when the men host Hunter College at 3 p.m.
