PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Finishing the most successful season in program history, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) men's tennis team defeated the University of D.C. (5-2, 5-2) in double-header play Sunday afternoon. UMES started the second match down 2-0 after winning the first 5-2. Sophomore Dorian Thomas (Mitchellville, Md.) defeated Daniel Gourdine 8-4 in #3 singles to start the Hawks turnaround. Richard Warren (Salem, N.J.) tied the match 2-2 after downing his opponent. The Hawks would take the lead 4-2 when Marquet Robinson's (Cambridge, Md.) opponent bowed out due to injury and Osvaldo Rivera (Christiansted, U.S.V.I.) won is game on default. DCU took the first doubles game, but Rivera partnered with Rashad James (Charlotte, N.C.) to defeat the #2 doubles team to secure the match in UMES' favor. UMES concluded the 2009 season having grabbed a record setting six wins to finish at .400.
