Princess Anne, MD - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Men's Tennis team was in action taking on the Eagles of Coppin State University today. The Hawks, playing in their second and final match of the Fall season fell just shy of a win with a 3-4 score in favor of the Eagles.

The Hawks swept the doubles category with the teams of Brandon Jackson and Lamar Sutton, George Ray and Max Miller, and Hasika Pamunuwa and Ryan Kum taking the wins. Ray and Miller had to go to a tie break to win but did just that by a 9-8 score. That gave UMES the 1-0 lead.

In singles compettion the Eagles fought back taking the numbers one, two, and three spots to take a 3-1 lead. Not to be outdone the Hawks battled back with Miller and Sutton both getting wins in the four and three seeds respectively. Ryan Kum fought hard in the sixth seed match but lost 6-4, 6-4 to Mike Jones to seal the win for Coppin State.

"It was a hard fought win for Coppin," said Head Coach Doug Wright. "We gave them a run for their money today, Hasika [Pamunuwa] went three sets with Josh Medoff from Coppin and we swept doubles competition. We have a lot to proud of," he added.

The Hawks are off until February when they will attend the MEAC Spring Round-Up.
