PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — In his first home match of the 2014 season, University of Maryland Eastern Shore sophomore Mohin Uddin (Forestville, Md.) took a game from Temple’s Santiago Canete in the first set. Uddin was not able to repeat the feat, as he and his fellow Hawks were defeated by Temple 7-0 Sunday at the Hawk Tennis Courts in Princess Anne. The result improves Temple’s record to 3-8, while the Hawks start the season off at 0-1.

Uddin, a graduate of Central High School in Capitol Heights, Md. and electronic engineering major here at UMES, finished the match with a final score of 1-6, 0-6. All other Hawks were defeated by scores of 6-0 and 6-0 in three separate singles matches. In the doubles competition, Temple took three matches, defeating the Hawks with two 8-0 victories and a default.

The match was viewed by a small yet supportive crowd of supporters who came out in the above average temperatures to cheer on the Hawks, which lasted about an hour and a half.

The men’s team is still scheduled to play Stevenson on Wednesday in Princess Anne despite the current weather forecast. Please continue to follow us at umeshawks.com for any changes in the upcoming schedule.
