PRINCESS ANNE, Md.—On Friday, September 27 the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletic Department will join with the Wicomico County American Cancer Society to participate in its Relay for Life event at Perdue Stadium. The Hawks are entering its fourth year as a proud participant in the event and takes pride in raising donations for a great cause.

Each year student-athletes and administrators brave the weather and stay overnight at the stadium. Many of the overnight walkers, including the UMES student-athletes, feel that if cancer will not sleep, then neither should those that have been touched by the effects of cancer.

As a team, the UMES Hawks have met or exceeded its goal of being able to donate $1,500 to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life each year. The team’s success has been in large part to the UMES community, fans and parents donating through the UMES Hawks Relay for Life fan page (Relay for Life).

Donations made on behalf of the UMES Hawks go directly to the American Cancer Society and are credited to the student-athletes and administrators who appreciate the support in exceeding its goal.

On September 27, the UMES Hawks that are staying the night will walk themed laps and participate in various events throughout the night, all in an effort to show a united expression that we will not let cancer defeat us.

If you would like to donate to the UMES Hawks, visit www.RelayforLife/WicomicoMD, click “donate” and search teams for “UMES Hawks”. All donations are made to the American Cancer Society and credited to the team UMES Hawks.
