Destiney Avent is in her third year as an assistant coach for the Lady Hawks.

She has returned to UMES, her alma mater, after spending one year as the head women's basketball coach at Montgomery Community College in Takoma Park, MD.

Destiney graduated from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 2002 with a B.S. Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. Avent played a key role on the women's basketball team during her two years as a Lady Hawk. In 2002 she was named to the Navy and Temple University All-tournament Teams, and was named the UMES 2002 female student-athlete of the year, as well as the 2002 women's basketball team MVP.

Prior to playing at UMES, Destiney played two seasons at Tallahasee Community College, while obtaining an Associate Degree in Physical Education.

She brings to her alma mater experience, desire, and the Fighting Hawk spirit to win.

Avent, originally from Manhattan, NY, now resides in Salisbury, MD.
