Jasmine Blanton enters her second season as an assistant women's basketball coach for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
The Toledo, Ohio native brings a wealth of playing experience with her to the Lady Hawks, where she had a decorated collegiate career at West Virginia State University and Owens Community College. Blanton was named to the All-West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference First Team after leading West Virginia State with an average of 18.0 points-per-game. She guided WVSU to a sixth-place finish in the conference, which proved to be the best final standing for the team in the past decade. She was also named a WVIAC Honorable Mention selection as a junior.
At Owens, she was the third leading scorer in the history of the program and guided the team to a conference championship in 2011. In her sophomore season, Blanton won Player of the Year honor. In her freshman season, Blanton won the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year.
Her coaching career encompasses work at several different places as well.She was an assistant coach for an AAU women's basketball team during the summer of 2011, where she developed guards and assisted with the day-to-day responsibilities of the head coach. She helped with the WVSU Women's Basketball Summer Camp in 2012 and assisted with the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club as well.
