PRINCESS ANNE, MD - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Lady Hawks evened their series with Longwood Thursday night. UMES downed the Lancers, 69-60, in a non-conference decision at the Hytche Center.

"This is a big win for us because Longwood handled us pretty well in November," Head Coach Fred Batchelor said. "This game was a good measuring tool for us to see how much we've improved over the past three months."

The Lady Hawks were led by senior Toni Kennedy (Baltimore, Md.), who had a team high 21 points on 6-for-11 shooting from 3-point range. Sophomore Kristi Veltkamp (Hudsonville, Mich.) added 10 points and six rebounds, while Daynese Stowe (Phildelphia, Pa.) finished with a season high 10 points.

Longwood (9-17) got 22 points from Ashley Mason while Courtney Dyer finished with 13.

UMES (10-11) shot 44% from the field compared to 35% by the Lancers. The Lady Hawks also held Longwood to just four treys the entire game as the Lancers finished 4-for-24 from beyond the arc.

Tiffany Reid's (Philadelphia, Pa.) free-throw at 7:19 sparked an 18-5 run by UMES as the Lady Hawks took a 12-point lead at the break, 40-28.

The maroon and gray cruised in the second half and used a 10-0 run midway through the period to net a comfortable lead. A lay-up by Veltkamp at 11:29 gave UMES a 17-point advantage, their largest of the night.

The Lady Hawks next face Florida A&M in a Homecoming decision on Saturday, February 18. Tip off at the Hytche Center is slated for 2 p.m.
