Baltimore, MD - The Maryland Eastern Shore Lady Hawks ended a two-game losing streak with an emphatic 78-62 wire-to-wire victory over the Morgan State Lady Bears Monday night in Baltimore. The victory gives the Lady Hawks a clean sweep of the two game regular season series against MSU, and also assures UMES at least a ninth-place finish in the MEAC (6-12, 11-16 overall).

MD-Eastern Shore won the battle of the boards, and held the Lady Bears to 32% shooting from the field. The Hawks advantage on the glass helped them take control of the game in the 1st half.

The Hawks went on a 15-2 run in the opening minutes to break open the contest and assume command. The Lady Bears fell behind by a 43-25 count at intermission.

MSU fell behind by 22 in the 2nd half before an 14-2 spurt brought them to within striking distance. However, the Lady Bears could not sustain the run and ultimately fell to their 14th conference defeat.

The Hawks were led by Octavia Thompson and Laconia Hatcher with 18 points apiece. Erica Bennett had a 17 point evening. Morgan was led by Sharonda Watson who had 18 points for the night. Freshman Whitney Johnson had 16 points and 3 assists. Javone Davis enjoyed a 14 point night for MSU.
