BUFFALO, N.Y. - The UMES women's basketball team rallied in the second half against Canisius but it was not enough as the Lady Hawks dropped a 48-44 non-conference decision to the Griffins at the Koessler Center in Buffalo. Canisius held a 17-point lead at 8:39 in the second half until a trey by Candyce Jeter (Baltimore, Md.) sparked an 11-3 run by UMES over the next minute and a half. Jasmine Speed's (Chesterfield, Mich.) jumper at the six minute mark closed the deficit to nine points. Key baskets by April McBride (New Rochelle, N.Y.), Natalia Benton (Brooklyn, NY) and Kristi Veltkamp (Hudsonville, Mich.) pulled the Hawks within two points of the Griffins, 46-44 with 1:35 left in regulation.
