VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Freshmen center Chena Parker (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) had a solid week, leading the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) to two non-conference wins on the road. For her performance Parker was awarded with the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) Rookie of the Week, the league announced today for the week ending January 13, 2008.

Parker shot 69 percent from the field on 16-23 shooting and averaged 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in the two wins. She posted what was then a career high tying 13 points in the Lady Hawks 60-56 win over American and scored a new career high of 22 points in the 82-46 victory at Winston-Salem State University (WSSU).

She was solid defensively as well putting up six rebounds, a steal and a block at American and added nine rebounds at WSSU.

This is the first selection for Parker and the second Rookie of the Week honor for UMES as freshmen guard Casey Morton (Mardela Springs, Md.) earned the award for the week ending December 12, 2007.

UMES players April McBride (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and Tiffany Reid (Philadelphia, Pa.) were also honored as MEAC Other Top Performers.

The Lady Hawks look to make it four in a row tonight when they travel to South Carolina State. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
