April McBride averaged 15.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals last week

PRINCESS ANNE, MD - UMES freshman April McBride was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Rookie of the Week for the week ending on January 14, the conference announced on Monday. This is McBride's fist rookie of the week selection.

McBride, a 6-1 forward from New Rochelle, N.Y., averaged 15.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals to help the Lady Hawks to a 2-0 record last week. She was 5-of-6 from the field for 12 points and nine rebounds in a MEAC win against South Carolina State and earned her second double-double of the season with a career-high 19 points and 10 rebounds in a non-conference win against Winston-Salem State (WSSU).

Also earning recognition as one of the conference's top performers last week was sophomore Jelila Abdul-Bassit who scored a career-high 19 points off the bench in the win over WSSU.

UMES next faces off against Florida A&M in a MEAC decision on January 20 at the Hytche Center. Tip-off is slated for 4 pm and will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
