VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) sophomore standouts April McBride (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle H.S.) and Tiffany Reid (Philadelphia, Pa./National Christian Academy) took two of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) top honors as they earned Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week respectively. The sophomore tandem helped UMES extend its win streak to four conference wins, including three on the road. McBride, a 6-1 forward, had a stellar week as she averaged a double double of 15.5 points and 12 rebounds. She tallied 11 points, five boards, two blocks, and three steals in a 77-51 win at Bethune-Cookman and then topped that outing with a 20 point, 19 rebound performance at Morgan State as UMES won its fourth consecutive MEAC match, 95-80. Her 19 rebounds set a new career high. It is the second time this season that McBride has earned the award.
Also having a standout week was Tiffany Ried, a 5-9 guard, who tallied 18 rebounds from the guard spot, one block, and three steals to go along with 28 points offensively. Reid, had 12 rebound effort at Morgan State with 10 coming on the defensive end. She added a career-high 24 points in the win. The two sophomores lead the Lady Hawks into action tonight, back in Baltimore as they face Coppin State at 5:30 p.m.
