NORFOLK, Va. -- After earning a career-high 17 rebounds against North Carolina A&T, UMES forward Shanyce Stewart has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Stewart (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) earned her first-ever MEAC weekly award with this honor. This is UMES's first defensive weekly award this season, totaling five with four rookie awards this year.

The junior finished this week with 23 rebounds, including a personal-best 17 against N.C. A&T and six at Bethune-Cookman. She also had a career-high six steals on Saturday after getting three in the earlier game this week.

Currently, Stewart stands fifth in the MEAC in rebounding with 8.4 boards a game and 13th in the conference with two steals per contest.

Stewart and the Lady Hawks will be back in action tonight as UMES faces North Carolina Central at 5:30 p.m. at the Hytche Athletic Center.
